The move comes amid exam scandals, student protests, and public controversy over alleged paper leaks involving the National Eligibility Entrance Test, an admissions test for aspiring doctors.
Analysts quoted by SCMP say Nilekani’s challenge is not only changing the test itself but pushing deeper improvements in India’s education system, which they link to the broader issue of youth employability. SCMP also notes Nilekani is known for building digital systems at scale, including India’s national digital identity platform, and has worked on tools aimed at learning access, such as Diksha for school education and Swayam for higher education, while quality education delivery remains constrained by device access, language diversity, and economic inequality.
