Mortgage-backed securities rise as Hormuz deal hopes lift risk appetite
Mortgage News Daily said MBS gained more than a quarter point, while the 10-year Treasury yield fell about 1.5 basis points to 4.66%.
Mortgage-backed securities climbed after optimism grew that a new deal covering Hormuz transit could be reached within days, prompting money inflows across both bond and stock markets, according to Mortgage News Daily.
The outlet reported that oil dropped to its lowest level since July 13, and bond yields moved lower as well, with multiple lenders repricing for the better during the morning trading session.
Mortgage performance improved broadly, with MBS up more than a quarter point, and Mortgage News Daily cited rates as having risen an eighth in the morning while the 10-year Treasury yield fell 1.5 basis points to 4.66%.
Mortgage News Daily also flagged remaining geopolitical risks, while noting that upcoming economic releases could matter for bonds this week, including ISM Services on Wednesday and the jobs report on Friday.
