Taiwan starts war games to prepare for a PLA maritime blockade
Taiwan’s Han Kuang exercise will also test relocating weapons production lines and running joint counter blockade missions during the 10-day drill.
Taiwan will begin its annual Han Kuang war games on Wednesday, using the 10-day exercise to test for the first time its ability to counter a People’s Liberation Army maritime blockade in the western Pacific, according to SCMP Economy.
The island’s defence ministry said the 42nd edition of the drill, its largest annual military exercise, will incorporate US military planning practices to improve coordination and mission command.
The scenario assumes the PLA has completed preparations for an attack and started crossing the Taiwan Strait, and Taiwan’s response would include raising combat readiness and conducting counter-landing operations, convoy escorts for critical supplies, and joint counter-blockade missions.
SCMP Economy also reported that the exercise will test wartime relocation of weapons production lines to safer locations to help Taiwan sustain military operations under attack.
