Texas moratorium on ERCOT data centers seen as limited for BTC miners
Bernstein said most Texas Bitcoin miners are under existing power-capacity contracts, while an audit could slow new, speculative data center pipelines.
Cointelegraph reports that Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered an audit of data centers seeking to connect to the state grid operator, ERCOT, and placed a moratorium on approvals pending that review.
Bernstein analysts said the action is unlikely to disrupt Bitcoin miners in Texas that already have approved electricity contracts, because most of the miners operating there are tied to previously approved capacity.
The analysts added that the audit could throttle speculative data center development, potentially increasing the value of sites with longer development timelines and existing infrastructure.
They pointed to potential future exposure for miners including Cipher Digital, Core Scientific, and CleanSpark as ERCOT approval processes for converting pipeline assets into grid-connected capacity draw more public scrutiny.
