US JOLTS job openings dip to 7.359 million in June

The June total was below May’s 7.537 million and slightly under the 7.4 million market expectation, keeping pressure on USD sentiment.

The number of US job openings fell to 7.359 million in June, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, following 7.537 million in May. The print came in slightly below the market expectation of 7.4 million, a data point that can influence currency valuation by shaping views on labor market tightness.

JOLTS also showed hires were unchanged at 5.3 million, while total separations were little changed at 5.4 million. Separations included quits at 3.2 million and layoffs and discharges at 1.8 million, both unchanged.

In the US session on Tuesday, the US Dollar Index edged lower, losing 0.12% to 99.87 at last check, as the report highlighted ongoing labor market conditions that central banks monitor.

High employment and wage growth are closely watched for their potential impact on consumer spending and inflation dynamics, which can feed into monetary policy expectations, FXStreet noted.
