Bybit wins Austrian e-money license for planned payments services
Bybit Payments GmbH received the authorization from Austria’s Financial Market Authority, giving the exchange a regulatory basis to roll out payment and e-money products such as person-to-person transfers and cards.
Cointelegraph reports that Bybit’s Austrian payments unit, Bybit Payments GmbH, received an electronic money institution license from Austria’s Financial Market Authority.
The authorization gives Bybit a legal framework to add payment and e-money services to its regional platform, with potential future offerings including person-to-person payments, merchant payment solutions, open banking features, and card products.
Bybit said the payments services will be provided via Bybit.eu, alongside services from a separate Austrian entity, Bybit EU GmbH, which has been authorized under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation since May 2025.
Cointelegraph adds that Bybit did not specify why Malta is excluded from Bybit.eu coverage, and said the two Austrian entities will keep distinct regulatory permissions and responsibilities, aiming to strengthen ties with banks and reduce reliance on third-party payment infrastructure.
