Cloudflare open sources Cloudflare OS for secure edge-based AI agents
The platform uses a “Gatekeeper” layer so agents must request specific resources before accessing internal systems, with credentials kept off the agent code.
Cloudflare has open sourced a rebuilt version of Cloudflare OS, an edge platform aimed at developers building autonomous apps and workflows on Cloudflare’s infrastructure, with the goal of letting agents run on an organization’s own systems and data.
According to Decrypt, Cloudflare OS includes an agent workspace that grounds conversations in an organization’s curated context and skills, an isolated runtime for agents to write and run code, and a security and governance layer built around “Gatekeepers.”
In the new model, Cloudflare said the main product is security that sits inside the platform rather than being implemented by every app builder or agent user. Instead of handing long lived, broad API keys, agents start with no access, request a specific resource, and a Gatekeeper service mediates access.
Cloudflare OS also adds a layer for personal, modifiable apps, where a workspace can turn chat into documents, workflows, or small full stack apps that run as Cloudflare Workers. Decrypt reports Cloudflare built the system so it logs agent observations and checks access before a person can open a workspace or view what an agent produced.
