CPKC posts record Canadian grain shipments in 2025-26 crop year
The railroad shipped 30.66 million tonnes, topping the prior record, and the 2025-26 volume was 11% higher than the previous crop year.
Canadian Pacific Kansas City said it moved a record 30.66 million tonnes of Canadian grain and grain products in the 2025-26 marketing year, exceeding the prior high by 72,500 tonnes set in 2020-21.
The company reported that 2025-26 shipment volume was 11% higher than the previous crop year, 16% higher than the three-year average, and 20% higher than the five-year average. CPKC also said it set records for Canadian grain transportation in the first and second quarters of 2026, along with monthly records in January, February, April, May, and June 2026.
In comments carried with the announcement, CPKC attributed the performance to consistent delivery and customer and terminal execution. The company pointed to supply chain investments, including 8,500-foot-capable elevators and ongoing investment in its network, assets, and operations, aimed at enabling more capacity and efficient train operations.
World Grain noted that in its July 29 earnings report, CPKC said grain freight revenue per revenue ton-mile rose from C$4.96 in the second quarter of 2025 to C$5.19 in the same quarter this year. CPKC also reported transporting 168,000 carloads of grain in the second quarter of 2026 versus 142,000 in the same period of 2025, and it released its 2026-2027 grain service outlook report on July 31.
