Kashkari backs a slow start to raising rates after dissent vote

Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis President Neel Kashkari said the Fed should begin raising interest rates gradually, positioning the first moves as a slower shift rather than an immediate acceleration.

Kashkari, according to CNBC, was one of three dissenters at last week’s Federal Open Market Committee meeting, underscoring that not all policymakers agreed on the timing and approach at that gathering.

The comments keep attention on the Fed’s next steps for monetary policy, particularly how quickly officials expect to move from current settings as they weigh inflation and economic conditions.
