Disney strikes TikTok deal to license clips for creator videos
The program launches in the US first and rolls out to other countries, with Disney not disclosing financial terms.
Disney has agreed a deal with TikTok that will let creators use clips from Disney films and TV shows in their videos, covering franchises from labels including Star Wars, Toy Story, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to BBC Business.
The outlet says the effort will be launched in the US before expanding to other countries, and that neither Disney nor TikTok shared the financial details of the agreement.
BBC Business notes the arrangement follows the collapse of a $1bn deal between Disney and OpenAI that would have allowed use of Disney characters in AI generated videos, a plan that was cancelled in March after OpenAI shut down its Sora video generation tool.
TikTok said its platform saw an average of 6.5 million posts about film and TV per day last year, and BBC Business reports Disney said the agreement will be supported by a jointly run program that aims to boost eligible creators' videos and provide access to exclusive events.
