SuperCritical appoints Neal Froneman as board chair
Froneman previously led Sibanye-Stillwater for 12 years and retired in Sept. 2025, bringing mining and capital markets experience to SuperCritical’s nuclear fuel and extraction push.
SuperCritical Materials has appointed Neal Froneman, the founder and former CEO of Sibanye-Stillwater, as chair of its board of directors. Mining.com reports that Froneman brings more than three decades of executive leadership across global mining, resource development, and capital markets.
Froneman retired from Sibanye-Stillwater in Sept. 2025 after 12 years at the helm. According to Mining.com, during his tenure the company expanded into critical mineral mining, including lithium, through a stake acquisition in Finland’s Keliber Lithium project.
SuperCritical said it is expanding nuclear fuel supply by commercializing advanced seawater uranium extraction to support nuclear growth and rising energy needs tied to AI data centres. Mining.com added that the company cited Froneman’s experience as valuable as it builds infrastructure, and that SuperCritical’s CEO pointed to his track record in developing industrial projects and creating long-term value for shareholders.
In comments included in the company release, Froneman said global demand for reliable, carbon-free energy is accelerating and that fuel supply remains a long term constraint for the nuclear industry. Mining.com also noted an additional tech update involving EMP Metals completing a demo plant at Viewfield for lithium sector positioning.
