US pays $100bn in tariff refunds under 'Liberation Day' policy
Repayments total about 60% of tariff revenue from the policy, with nearly $29bn more under review and $1.6bn pending importer banking details.
BBC Business reports that Donald Trump's administration has repaid $100 billion in so-called Liberation Day tariff refunds to businesses through US customs officials.
The outlet says the repayments represent roughly 60% of all tariff revenue collected by the government under the policy, citing a recent court filing referenced by customs officials.
But a large portion remains unpaid, with nearly $29 billion in potential refunds still under review by trade authorities, and another $1.6 billion stuck because importers have not yet provided banking details.
The refunds follow a February Supreme Court decision that ruled broad import tariffs issued under economic powers were unlawful, and BBC Business notes that companies including Amazon have already claimed refunds, with more expected as customs reviews pending claims and importers update payment information.
