Zuckerberg apologizes to India over child sexual abuse content on Meta

Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg has apologized to the Indian government over child sexual abuse material on the company’s platforms, along with deepfake content and operational lapses, according to Moneycontrol, citing sources and local television channels.

The apology was conveyed during a meeting between Meta executives and Indian government officials on Tuesday, Reuters reported, according to the same coverage.

In July, India ordered Meta to remove advertisements and content promoting child sexual abuse material on Instagram and also sought an explanation from Meta within seven days on how advertisements containing such material were allowed on the platform, the BBC reported earlier, citing a senior ministry official.

Reuters added that the July action followed the government’s demand for details on Meta’s advertising and content oversight, highlighting regulatory scrutiny of the platform.
