DeepSeek warns of significant API price hike as demand surges
The company said it expects a significant increase to its API pricing soon, following the release of its DeepSeek-V4-Flash-0731 model a week earlier.
DeepSeek announced a “significant” price hike for its application programming interface, citing surging global demand for a new ultra low cost model, according to SCMP Economy.
In a notice posted to its developer platform, the Hangzhou based company said it expects users to plan their usage accordingly and that specific details would be shared later, with the overall pricing change planned “in the near future.”
The warning arrived a week after DeepSeek released DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731, described as a 284 billion parameter lightweight version of the V4 series that was previewed in April.
SCMP Economy noted that the move highlights the difficulty of sustaining aggressively low pricing amid intense competition, and it cited an AI developer on X questioning whether raising prices at this time could backfire given rival American models.
