Tokenized cows and NFTs for unusual assets spotlight onchain finance
Brazil’s B3 exchange case used 10 tokenized cows as collateral for a 100,000 Brazilian real loan, a proof of concept for broader livestock backed financing.
Cointelegraph highlights how crypto tokenization is being applied to increasingly unusual assets, from livestock to nonfungible tokens tied to personal recordings. The outlet points to Brazil’s B3 stock exchange, where a farmer in southern Brazil used 10 tokenized cows as collateral for a 100,000 Brazilian real loan, worth about $19,600. The setup involved placing the cows into a blockchain based holding pen, and each cow received a unique digital token linked to an encrypted digital identity. Cointelegraph says the deal was structured by Brazilian investment fund Target FIDC and that the first loan served as a proof of concept. It also notes the approach could potentially support around $80 million in livestock backed financing across farms. The piece also catalogs other odd tokenization examples, including a filmmaker who minted NFTs from his own farts. Cointelegraph says the filmmaker sold those tokens for 0.05 ETH each, about $85 at the time, underscoring the market finding a price even for nontraditional items.
