Ford to launch new electric pickup priced from $28,000

The truck will be built on Ford's Universal Electric Vehicle platform, which the company says is key to generating profit in EVs.

Ford will introduce a new electric pickup truck, the company says, with a starting price of $28,000, according to CNBC Markets.

The new model, called Fathom, is described as the first vehicle built on Ford's Universal Electric Vehicle platform.

Ford has said that platform is important to making money with EVs, CNBC Markets reported.

The new pickup marks Ford's next step in expanding its electric-vehicle lineup as the company pushes toward lower-cost EV production.
