Women report AI recruitment tools are limiting job prospects

A BBC survey of more than 60 women aged 40 to 65 found many experienced automated replies, rejections, or silence after submitting hundreds of CVs.

After decades in senior roles, a number of women say AI-powered recruitment tools are making it harder to return to work, according to BBC Business.

The outlet spoke with more than 60 women aged 40 to 65 across different industries who described repeatedly sending large numbers of CVs and receiving mostly automated replies or rejections, even when they had not previously struggled to find work.

One London-based job seeker, 52-year-old Stacey Duguid, said she spent 16 months submitting “gazillions” of applications with little response and later “Botoxed” her CV by removing references to her age and experience.

Other interviewees reported similar patterns. Koeyli Jaluka, 49, said she has applied for 442 jobs since being made redundant nine months ago and has heard back only in a few cases, while Anna Cowie, 52, described being unemployed for almost four years after a 30-year advertising career. BBC notes it is often impossible to confirm whether AI screening drove specific rejections because employers rarely disclose their recruitment processes, but many interviewees expressed concerns about age-related bias and tighter hiring criteria.
