Bitcoin Red Team logs 4,962 security findings across 390 projects
The campaign reported 85 critical and 635 high-severity issues in about 30 hours, with 91% of findings coming from automated scans.
A volunteer group called the Bitcoin Red Team has filed 4,962 security findings across roughly 390 Bitcoin projects in about 30 hours, using AI agents to scan codebases as part of what it describes as a large-scale ecosystem audit, Decrypt reports. The project’s first situation report was published by pseudonymous developer calle, who created the Bitcoin ecash protocol Cashu.
In the first 30 hours, the group logged 85 findings at critical severity and 635 at high severity, totaling 14.5% of the assessed corpus, Decrypt said. The same update estimates an average of 1.85 serious issues per project, and notes the filing rate reached about 166 findings an hour.
The report attributes its approach to having contributors prompt their own agents, which the group says produces a wider spread of results than relying on a single method. Privacy and coinjoin projects generated the highest share of high-or-critical findings at 24%, followed by swaps and exchanges at 21%, and payments and merchant tools at 17%, according to Decrypt.
Decrypt adds that only 19 projects, under 5% of those reviewed, have disclosed findings upstream so far, while the team also said eight issues were retired as false positives. The report also says 27.5 hours in, it had grown to 16 people working around the clock, with 17 contributors total, 14 human and three automated, and that 21% of findings were dynamically reproduced with proof-of-concept code.
