Amwins Global Risks expands renewable energy catastrophe facility to $50m

The expanded facility provides excess catastrophe protection worldwide for renewable assets, adding coverage for risks including earthquake, flood, wildfire, and windstorm.

Amwins Global Risks, the specialist wholesale insurance broking business of Amwins, has expanded its natural catastrophe facility for renewable energy projects, increasing capacity to USD $50 million per placement and extending both the range of covered perils and global availability.

Originally introduced to add Severe Convective Storm protection for renewable energy developments in the United States, the facility now provides excess catastrophe protection against earthquake, flood, wildfire, windstorm, and other major natural catastrophe risks for renewable energy assets and associated transmission infrastructure worldwide.

The facility is structured to sit above primary property and construction insurance programs, aiming to add catastrophe capacity for developers and investors by helping address the gap between available market capacity and the full exposure value of larger, more complex projects.

Amwins Global Risks said the expansion reflects shifting purchasing trends as property insurance rates soften and some project owners redirect premium savings toward higher catastrophe limits, while lenders and investors prioritize stronger protection for high value infrastructure.
