Black Lake launches Harbor Verify to independently check onchain mortgage loans

Harbor Verify is being rolled out first with a $25 million residential mortgage portfolio, enabling reviewers to confirm eligibility criteria and pool inclusion without accessing nonpublic borrower data.

Black Lake Digital Markets, which provides institutional rails for mortgage capital markets, announced the launch of Harbor Verify, a browser-based blockchain tool designed to help investors, lenders, auditors, and rating agencies verify tokenized real-world assets against agreed eligibility rules.

The tool supports on demand verification without reviewers seeing private borrower information. Instead of relying on bilateral reports or restricted data rooms, Harbor Verify lets users run two checks on a selected pool and loan to confirm both that the correct rulebook was used and that the loan is actually included in the pool.

Harbor Verify hashes a pool’s published eligibility rulebook, which includes requirements such as FICO score, loan-to-value ratio, geography, and seasoning, then compares that with hashes contained in the loan’s cryptographic proof and those anchored onchain. It also reconstructs the pool’s Merkle commitments to detect any attempt to add, remove, or substitute loans without detection, and verifies a zero-knowledge proof that the loan met the encoded eligibility requirements.

Black Lake said it is applying the model first to a $25 million portfolio of residential mortgage loans, allowing reviewers to check represented loans and whether they satisfied the encoded eligibility rules using hashes and yes or no cryptographic results.
