US imposes 15% tariff and price floors on polysilicon imports
The tariff takes effect after 120 days, and the rules include a minimum import price program aimed at preventing China from dumping polysilicon and ensuring domestic supply for semiconductors.
The United States announced new tariffs and price floors on polysilicon and related products, aiming to challenge China’s dominance in materials used for solar panels and semiconductor manufacturing, according to SCMP Economy.
In a proclamation signed on Thursday, President Donald Trump imposed a 15.0% tariff that will take effect after 120 days, along with a minimum import price program intended to create a protected domestic market for US producers.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the package is designed to stop additional dumping and to encourage domestic production and supply chain localization.
The proclamation also states that without a secure domestic supply of polysilicon, the United States cannot produce semiconductors in sufficient volume.
