BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs see $3.5B net outflows

SEC filings show IBIT and ETHA swung from a $13.9 billion Q2 increase a year earlier to a $3.5 billion decrease, with IBIT down $2.9 billion and ETHA down $583.4 million.

BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs recorded a combined $3.5 billion net decrease from capital-share transactions in the second quarter, reversing the prior year’s surge, according to new SEC filings reviewed by CryptoSlate.

The iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF, IBIT, logged $4.3 billion of contributions from shares issued and $7.2 billion of distributions tied to shares redeemed for the three months ended June 30. That gap produced a $2.9 billion net decrease, while the trust also reported a reduction in net assets of over $7 billion during the quarter.

The iShares Ethereum Trust ETF, ETHA, recorded $943.3 million in contributions and $1.5 billion in distributions, resulting in a $583.4 million net decrease. CryptoSlate also notes that the ETF filings state these contribution and distribution figures reflect capital-share activity and are separate from price-driven changes in trust net assets and investors’ individual profits or losses.

The filings’ activity tables listed 106,148 BTC and 770,839 ETH in rows labeled as assets sold for share redemptions, and the footnotes say those rows include in-kind distributions valued at $3.85 billion of Bitcoin and $904 million of Ethereum. CryptoSlate adds that the filings do not identify who initiated the underlying share redemptions, and it cites Farside Investors data showing IBIT inflows and ETHA inflows during early August sessions.
