EU and Brazil feed industry groups expand safety and standards cooperation
The partnership covers regulatory updates on feed ingredient approvals, labeling and maximum residue levels, and aims to support global standards through Codex, WOAH and the WTO.
The EU and Brazilian feed sectors will expand cooperation through a new agreement covering feed safety, animal health and welfare, biosecurity, and international feed and food standards, according to World Grain.
A key element of the deal between the European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation, FEFAC, and Brazil’s Feed Industry Association, Sindirações, is exchanging regulatory developments and expertise to track legislative initiatives, including feed legislation, feed ingredient approvals, labeling requirements, and maximum residue levels.
The cooperation also includes joint work in global organizations such as Codex, WOAH, the World Organization for Animal Health, and the WTO to promote science based international standards, while dialogue on sustainable production will cover responsible sourcing and the environmental footprint of feedstuffs.
World Grain also notes the agreement is intended to facilitate implementation of the EU Mercosur Partnership Agreement and Interim Trade Agreement, which entered into provisional application on May 1.
