Houthi missile and drone strikes kill at least 58 Yemeni troops

The attacks on troop camps were the worst in Yemen since 2022, and they injured dozens as the conflict spills further into the broader US and Iran fight.

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis killed at least 58 government troops in missile and drone attacks on Thursday, according to a military source cited by SCMP Economy, in one of the deadliest days of the country’s four-year civil war.

The strikes targeted government positions with ballistic missiles and drones and followed an Houthi claim of an alleged military build-up backed by neighbouring Saudi Arabia, which supports Yemen’s internationally recognized government.

The outlet said medical sources earlier had reported 38 dead, while the military source added that dozens were also injured.

SCMP Economy further reported that the attacks on troop camps were the worst in Yemen since 2022, as Yemen becomes more drawn into the wider US and Israeli conflict with Iran.
