Mermaid Inn co-founders lease 61 West 74th Street for new restaurant
The roughly 2,300-square-foot space, plus a basement, was leased at $130 per square foot.
Restaurateurs Danny Abrams and Cindy Smith, co-founders of the New England-style seafood spot Mermaid Inn, have signed a lease for a new location on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Commercial Observer reports. Abrams secured the deal for 61 West 74th Street, including a 2,300-square-foot space and a basement, at $130 per square foot, according to the outlet.
The address sits between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West, about a block and a half south of Mermaid Inn. The site previously housed Patsy’s Pizzeria, which permanently closed in January after the end of its lease and rising costs, West Side Rag reported.
Commercial Observer also reports that Counter Real Estate’s Justin Losh negotiated the lease on behalf of the landlord, Viking Management. Meridian Capital Group’s Carson Shahrabani and Noam Aziz represented Abrams in the transaction.
Abrams is quoted by Commercial Observer describing his new project as a neighborhood milestone, noting Mermaid Inn’s proximity to the new site. The upcoming restaurant at 61 West 74th Street remains unnamed, with the concept still undecided, and Abrams declined to share additional details about the lease.
