Russia imports diesel and jet fuel from South Korea as refineries struggle

Ship-tracking data cited by Reuters shows about 30,000 metric tons of fuels moving to Russia’s Far East, including diesel and some jet fuel, as Ukrainian drone attacks constrain refinery output.

Russia turned to South Korea for fuel supplies last month, importing about 30,000 metric tons of fuels to address constraints tied to ongoing Ukrainian drone attacks on its refineries, according to OilPrice citing Reuters ship-tracking data.

The report, referencing data from Kpler and Vortexa, said at least two short-range tankers were loaded with fuels in South Korea and sent to Russia’s Far East, with one cargo already arriving.

OilPrice also noted an earlier Bloomberg report that Russian refinery throughput fell last month to the lowest since 2002, at 3.6 million barrels per day, more than 30% below the seasonal average.

While local sources said Russia is restarting previously hit refineries and shortages are easing, Reuters added that Ukraine’s attacks have continued, and Russia extended a ban on diesel fuel exports through year end, keeping supply tight.
