SEC subscribes to airline database with over 1 billion ticket records

The Securities and Exchange Commission has subscribed to a global airline ticket database that holds more than one billion ticket records, according to SEC documents obtained by 404 Media via a Freedom of Information Act request, as described by Decrypt.
The data came from Airlines Reporting Corporation's Travel Intelligence Program, which was used to compile bookings made through travel platforms such as Expedia and Kayak, and it included passengers' names, the credit cards used to buy tickets, routes, and flight numbers.
Decrypt reports the SEC access also included an alert system that checked new bookings against a list of people the agency was monitoring, flagging travel activity tied to bookings made in the prior 24 hours, with the SEC requesting between one and 25 alerts per day.
The article adds that the same credit card and travel trail used in airline booking processes is similar to the trails crypto holders can leave behind, linking payment instruments to exchange accounts and other activity.
