Wintermute registers US broker-dealer to expand into tokenized securities

The new registration with the SEC and FINRA allows Wintermute USA to trade stocks and stock options and serve as an authorized participant for exchange-traded products, including those linked to digital assets.

Crypto market maker Wintermute has registered its US affiliate, Wintermute USA LLC, as a broker-dealer, enabling the firm to expand its footprint in US financial markets, Cointelegraph reported.

According to the announcement, Wintermute USA registered with the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, which permits the company to trade stocks and stock options. The firm also can act as an authorized participant for exchange-traded products, including those tied to digital assets.

Wintermute said the registration is meant to position it for growth in tokenized securities in the US. The company cited the idea that digital asset markets and traditional finance will evolve in parallel and intersect, integrating more deeply as the landscape changes.

A broker-dealer is described as an entity that assists with securities trading for customers, for its own account, or both, while authorized participants are described as key facilitators in the ETF creation and redemption process.
