Solana supply proposals move to Aug. 22 governance clock

The proposals, SGP-0002 and SGP-0003, must clear an Aug. 22 end of discussion before a later governance vote and any on-chain implementation.

Solana’s supply reforms, SGP-0002 and SGP-0003, have entered a governance timeline, with both proposals ending their discussion periods at Aug. 22, 15:13 UTC. CryptoSlate reports that a governance vote is the next step, and implementation would follow only if the vote succeeds, with any feature-gating expected before the on-chain economics change.

SGP-0002 targets future issuance by doubling Solana’s annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, while keeping a 1.5% terminal target and the existing reward mechanism. The authors’ model cited by CryptoSlate projects inflation reaches 1.5% in about 2.8 years, shortening the current 5.7-year path, and estimates roughly 18.9 million fewer SOL over six years, or 2.6% less issuance.

The same model also implies a falling staking yield as issuance drops, starting at 5.84% and moving to 4.34% after one year, 3.0% after two years, and 2.25% after three years under a 68% staking-participation scenario. CryptoSlate adds that commissions, MEV, and block rewards are outside the calculation, and the cost model estimates unprofitable validators could rise from 290 at baseline to 320 after three years, depending on factors like SOL price and operating expenses.

SGP-0003 would also change fee economics by shifting from a split base fee to an inclusion fee paid entirely to the block leader, while burning a separate resource fee in full. According to CryptoSlate, the resource charge would step through 0.1, 0.25, and 0.5 lamport per requested cost unit, with priority fees continuing to flow to the leader.
