Global equity funds see 11 straight weeks of inflows as earnings rise
Investors pulled net $21.1 billion into global equity funds for the week ended Aug. 5, while U.S. equity funds saw about $1.6 billion of outflows.
Global equity funds logged inflows for an 11th consecutive week, helped by investor optimism around a strong earnings season and easing crude oil prices, according to Reuters citing LSEG Lipper data.
For the week ended Aug. 5, investors added a net $21.15 billion to global equity funds, after about $27.72 billion of net buying the prior week. Earnings updates from around 808 MSCI World constituents already reported showed combined profits up 40.9% year over year, with about 75% of companies beating analysts’ forecasts.
By region, European equity funds attracted $12.52 billion for the week, the largest weekly inflow since July 8, and Asian funds recorded $8.15 billion in inflows. U.S. funds were the exception, with about $1.58 billion in outflows.
Flows also broadened beyond equities, with Reuters data showing a net $12.27 billion added to global bond funds and $3.66 billion of inflows into high-yield funds. Money market funds drew net inflows of $57.48 billion, while gold and other precious metals funds attracted $345 million, and energy funds recorded a second straight weekly outflow of $153 million.
