Robinhood Chain targets both serious crypto products and meme-driven users
After a little over a month online, Robinhood Chain reached nearly $800 million in total value locked and processed more than 200 million transactions, according to Decrypt.
Robinhood is positioning its own Ethereum layer-2 network to serve two audiences at once, balancing “serious” trading and finance features with the memes and attention that typically bring new users into crypto, Decrypt reports. In an interview, Robinhood’s head of crypto, Johann Kerbrat, framed the effort as a “two wolves” strategy linked to the company’s broader goal of moving brokerage products on-chain, including tokenized equities and derivatives.
Kerbrat said Robinhood chose an Ethereum layer-2 rather than building a separate layer-1 so it could rely on Ethereum’s existing security and decentralization while dedicating resources to its own products. He pointed to early adoption signals including deposits, transaction volume, and developer activity, and said the network is also designed to work for people beyond Robinhood by enabling interaction with features like stock tokens.
Robinhood Chain supports buying and selling roughly 200 tokenized stocks, lending stablecoins, and trading perpetual futures. Kerbrat also argued that on-chain trading can help retail users respond to market-moving news after traditional exchanges close, since crypto activity does not pause on weekends.
