S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures rise ahead of key U.S. jobs report

Investors also digested pre-market earnings, including Atlassian, Cloudflare, and Microchip, while WTI was little changed on Iran-Oman Strait of Hormuz talks.

U.S. stock index futures edged higher on Friday as investors waited for the next key U.S. jobs report for clues on the Federal Reserve’s policy path. September S&P 500 E-Mini futures were up 0.3%, and September Nasdaq 100 E-Mini futures gained 0.6%, after rebounding from the prior day’s losses, according to Yahoo Finance.

Corporate earnings activity added support to the futures, with several companies jumping in pre-market trading. Atlassian rose more than 32% after posting stronger-than-expected FQ4 results and issuing above-consensus FQ1 revenue guidance, while Cloudflare gained more than 16% after upbeat Q2 results and raised full-year guidance, Yahoo Finance reported.

Microchip Technology also climbed, up more than 9% in pre-market trading, after reporting better-than-expected FQ1 results and issuing FQ2 guidance that exceeded Wall Street’s estimates, the outlet said. At the same time, WTI crude was little changed as markets awaited updates from Iran-Oman talks related to managing traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

In the prior session, major U.S. indexes closed lower, driven by sharp moves in individual stocks after results and guidance updates. Honeywell Aerospace dropped more than 23% after cutting its full-year organic growth outlook, AppLovin fell more than 19% on weaker-than-expected Q2 revenue and softer Q3 guidance, and Western Digital slid more than 13% after guidance came in below high expectations, Yahoo Finance reported.
