XRPL proposes confidential transfers for tokenized real-world assets

The upgrade, tied to XRPL software version 3.3.0, targets privacy for institutions and requires at least two weeks of 80% validator support to activate.

CoinDesk reports that the XRP Ledger is considering a set of institutional-focused amendments in its upcoming version 3.3.0, including a proposed “Confidential Transfers” feature. The change would allow certain tokenized assets to encrypt account balances and payment amounts while keeping account addresses and token types visible.

The approach is designed for tokenized real-world assets on XRPL, where privacy can matter for fund or bond-like use cases. CoinDesk says the ledger would still be able to verify that transaction sums add up, using cryptographic methods that validate transfers without exposing the underlying numbers.

CoinDesk also notes that the broader upgrade package includes five other amendments, such as tools for batching transactions, sponsoring fees, and delegating permissions. All of the institutional features require at least two weeks of 80% validator support before they can go live.

CoinDesk adds that XRPL already hosts more than $530 million of tracked tokenized real-world assets, with RWA.xyz estimating about $1.38 billion issued in total. RLUSD leads at $845.7 million, followed by Ondo at $212.6 million, VERT Capital at $116.1 million, and Archax at $55.4 million, with Societe Generale at $11.6 million.
