Aventura condo owners sue over approval of 2 luxury towers
The condominium associations are seeking damages and asking a court to overturn Aventura's 2025 approval for a 264-unit development.
Condominium associations for Turnberry Isle North and South towers in Aventura have filed a lawsuit alleging the city changed rules to approve a two-tower luxury project that developer Jeffrey Soffer previously could not get through.
According to Bisnow, the suit challenges the city’s 2025 approval of a 264-unit development and says the condo owners were stripped of vested property rights that, the associations argue, require their final sign-off on material changes to the exclusive enclave.
The associations, representing 556 residents, filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against the city of Aventura and YCM Acquisition LLC, a local project entity tied to Soffer. They are seeking unspecified damages and to undo the approval.
Bisnow reports that YCM submitted an administrative site plan application for the property in September 2021 and that the residents identified significant issues and objections. The article also notes prior reporting that Soffer proposed replacing part of the Turnberry Isle Yacht Club facilities with two residential towers totaling 398,000 square feet, including 145 condos and parking for 320 vehicles.
