Tokenized funds approach $4B deployed in DeFi despite frequent hacks

DeFiLlama data shows active real world asset value of $33.9B, with $3.97B, or 11.7%, used inside DeFi protocols.

DeFi recorded 99 hacks in the second quarter of 2026, a new high in DeFiLlama’s database, yet tokenized real world asset value deployed inside DeFi kept climbing to nearly $3.97 billion, an all time high, according to CryptoSlate. DeFiLlama’s dashboard puts total RWA active market cap at $33.9 billion and on chain market cap at $36.7 billion, but only $3.97 billion, or about 11.7% of active RWA value, sits inside DeFi protocols. The article says DeFi’s role is to give tokenized assets use cases on chain, such as collateral, lending liquidity, and inputs for other protocols. CryptoSlate also highlights that DeFiLlama examined 59 historical hacks with meaningful pre hack total value locked, finding that most affected protocols kept less than 10% of their previous TVL. It adds that the amount stolen showed almost no relationship to how much value was drained in the following 30 days, and frames the trust impact as a key driver separate from loss size. Within tokenized funds, CryptoSlate points to BlackRock’s BUIDL with more than $2.7 billion in active market cap, but just $18.2 million deployed in DeFi, a utilization rate of 0.67%. It contrasts that with smaller, higher utilization credit products, saying a group of five such products has $3.4 billion in active market cap, $2.5 billion deployed in DeFi, and that Maple’s syrupUSDC and syrupUSDT together account for about $1.5 billion in DeFi active TVL, or 38.6% of the $3.97 billion total.
