Trump names Will Scharf White House counsel, effective Sept. 1
The move replaces David Warrington, as Democrats pledge investigations if they gain control of Congress in November.
US President Donald Trump announced that Will Scharf, currently the staff secretary, will become White House counsel starting September 1, replacing David Warrington, who will leave the administration to enter the private sector, according to SCMP Economy.
Scharf previously led the National Capital Planning Commission as a Trump appointee, helping secure approval for a US$400 million ballroom project, and Trump said Scharf has served as a federal prosecutor and represented him in multiple cases including at the Supreme Court.
The White House counsel role advises on legal and policy questions tied to the presidency and acts as the primary White House contact for the Justice Department, including work related to presidential pardons, judicial appointments, and reviews of legislation.
Trump’s announcement comes months ahead of the midterm elections, with Democrats vowing to pursue investigations into Trump and his administration if their party is successful in November, SCMP Economy reported.
