Bitcoin Red Team finds 1,288 vulnerabilities as AI access tightens

The volunteer security group says its scanning efforts accelerated after the Coldcard hardware wallet hack, which saw more than $100 million in bitcoin stolen.

Bitcoin Red Team says it has identified 1,288 critical and high-level vulnerabilities across the Bitcoin ecosystem as of Saturday, highlighting ongoing weaknesses in open-source Bitcoin-related code.

Cointelegraph reports that AnchorWatch CEO Rob Hamilton, who leads the effort, said he began integrating OpenAI Trust and Cyber capabilities into his Red Team work, but his access was restricted the following morning, forcing him to return to open-source Chinese AI models for further analysis.

Hamilton said Bitcoin Red Team, which uses a combination of AI tools and human review, scans hundreds of open-source repositories and that activity intensified days after the Coldcard hardware wallet hack, which resulted in more than $100 million in bitcoin stolen.

Cointelegraph also notes Hamilton’s broader concern that the most powerful AI tools are not equally available to defenders, limiting their ability to confirm code changes and discover additional issues, even as attackers continue probing.
