Blockstream launches trustless Bitcoin swaps between mainnet and Lightning
The feature, called Blockstream Swaps, is aimed at letting users switch across layers without losing full control over their funds.
Blockstream has announced Blockstream Swaps, a new feature designed to enable trustless Bitcoin swaps between the Bitcoin main chain and the Lightning network, according to Bitcoin Magazine.
The company said the service is intended to let users move funds across layers quickly, while never losing full control over their funds. Blockstream also said the Lightning flow would not require users to run a node or set up channels, and instead would convert a swap at the moment of payment based on a user holding a Bitcoin or LBTC balance.
LBTC is described as the native asset of the Liquid Network, a Blockstream-created Bitcoin layer 2 sidechain. Blockstream positioned the initiative as part of a broader utility suite for the Bitcoin and Liquid ecosystem, saying it complements existing providers rather than replacing any one of them.
The launch follows the suspension of non-custodial Bitcoin swap provider Boltz, which Bitcoin Magazine says paused operations after attackers reportedly found vulnerabilities faster than Boltz’s team could fix them using AI. The outlet also noted that security experts have warned that AI-assisted attacks have contributed to a surge in crypto hacks this month.
