Blockstream launches trustless swaps to move between Lightning and Bitcoin
The feature, called Blockstream Swaps, is designed to let users switch between the main chain and Lightning without needing to run a node or channel, after Boltz suspended its service.
Blockstream has announced a new “Blockstream Swaps” feature aimed at enabling trustless Bitcoin swaps between the Bitcoin main network and the Lightning network, Bitcoin Magazine reports.
According to the report, the launch comes after non-custodial swap provider Boltz suspended its service, saying attackers were finding vulnerabilities faster than its team could fix them using AI.
Blockstream said the swaps are meant to help users move funds across Bitcoin layers while never losing full control, and that using Lightning will not require users to run a node or channel. Users can hold a Bitcoin or LBTC balance, with a swap converting at the moment of payment.
The report also notes that LBTC is the native asset of Blockstream’s Liquid Network, a Bitcoin layer 2 sidechain, and that Blockstream described the initiative as complementary to other providers rather than replacing them.
