Brazil sets Oct 30, 2026 licensing deadline for crypto providers
Brazil is requiring virtual asset service providers to seek Central Bank authorization by October 30, 2026 and include an independent audit of anti-money-laundering and sanctions controls.
Brazil’s crypto market is moving toward formal oversight, with virtual asset service providers required to seek Central Bank authorization by October 30, 2026, according to a report cited by Decrypt from blockchain security firm CertiK.
The rules apply to firms that let customers trade, hold, or send crypto, and the application must include a “reasonable assurance report” from an audit firm registered with the securities regulator, attesting that anti-money-laundering and sanctions controls are working.
CertiK linked the update to Brazil’s legal framework for virtual assets, Law 14,478/2022, and noted the regime came into focus after the Central Bank of Brazil published three resolutions on November 10, 2025, which define licensing requirements, capital floors, and how crypto fits into the country’s foreign-exchange rules.
The report also highlights the market scale and risk environment, citing $318.8 billion in on-chain value over the twelve months to June 2025 and losses of $1.32 billion to hackers and thieves in the first half of 2026, while estimating about 120 providers currently serve the market, many operating without a formal license.
