Dormant 2014 Bitcoin wallet moves 26.96 BTC after 12 years

The transfer on Aug. 10, 2026 moved 26.96 BTC in block 961845, implying a potential roughly $1.73 million realized gain at an $803 average cost.

A Bitcoin wallet that received its coins on Jan. 31, 2014, became active again after about 12.5 years of inactivity, moving 26.96 BTC on Aug. 10, 2026.

According to Decrypt, the move occurred in block 961845 at 07:03 UTC and was tracked by Galaxy Research. The address holds a potential realized gain of about $1.73 million, or a 7,975% return based on an average cost near $803 per coin.

Decrypt noted this is the second long-dormant Bitcoin awakening flagged this month, following another wallet that moved 49.97 BTC after roughly 15 years.

While the transfer does not confirm a sale, the outlet said sweeping funds to a fresh address often precedes consolidation or later steps toward selling or using the BTC as collateral, fitting a broader pattern of dormant supply reactivating more frequently over the past two years.
