Hong Kong and Malaysia plan deeper collaboration on semiconductors
The Hong Kong Trade Development Council chairman said the push aims to connect Malaysian firms with opportunities in China’s Greater Bay Area, with a conference in Kuala Lumpur focused on finance, technology, and healthcare.
Hong Kong and Malaysia are set to deepen economic ties, with a focus that includes semiconductor manufacturing, according to the South China Morning Post. The comments came from Frederick Ma Si-hang, chairman of Hong Kong’s Trade Development Council, as he joined a large Hong Kong delegation to Malaysia under the city’s “Think Business, Think Hong Kong” campaign.
Ma said the delegation reflects growing commercial interest and expanded regional collaboration to increase business between the two places. He also pointed to Malaysia’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and Hong Kong’s talent pool as areas for pairing strengths, and described Hong Kong as a potential “superconnector” for helping Malaysian enterprises tap the mainland Chinese market, particularly the Greater Bay Area.
The delegation will host a full-day conference at the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. The event will cover core sectors including finance, innovation and technology, and healthcare, as part of the broader business push highlighted by the outlet.
