India updates official Arunachal Pradesh map names near China border
The Survey of India added names for 27 locations, including land areas, mountain passes, a high-altitude lake and a memorial, citing the goal of “accurate recognition.”
India has issued official names for 27 locations in Arunachal Pradesh on its Survey of India maps, including sensitive sites near the disputed border with China, according to SCMP Economy. The Indian government announced the update on Friday, a day after India and China held a working-level consultation in New Delhi focused on border management and reaffirming the need for peace along the Line of Actual Control. India’s Ministry of Home Affairs said the Survey of India issued standard names to ensure “accurate recognition” and improve public awareness of the locations’ geographical and historical significance, adding the list to official maps. The release said the named additions include 21 land areas, four mountain passes, a high-altitude lake, and a memorial, while an analyst cited by SCMP Economy warned the move could complicate efforts to repair bilateral ties.
