Trump adds Iran compensation demand to talks on reopening Strait of Hormuz
Iran said Washington must compensate it for damage from more than five months of US and Israeli strikes before the waterway can fully reopen, according to the report.
US President Donald Trump said Monday he wants Iran to compensate victims of attacks, conflicts, and domestic repression he attributed to Tehran, adding the demand as a new condition in negotiations over reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The demand was described as coming after Iran reiterated that the United States must compensate it for damage from more than five months of US and Israeli strikes before the strategic waterway can be fully reopened.
Trump also called for compensation for families of people killed during Iran anti-government protests and for victims of the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen, according to SCMP Economy.
