US tariff refunds deliver over US$38 million to five Chinese firms

The payouts, sent through US subsidiaries’ accounts, range from US$7.64 million on average per company and are expected to flow into second-half 2026 results, according to filings cited by SCMP Economy.

A wave of US tariff refunds is reaching Chinese listed companies, with more than US$38 million in tariff rebates and accrued interest landing in the bank accounts of five firms since last month, SCMP Economy reported. The refunds come from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) disbursements.

The five companies, focused mainly on automotive and healthcare, each secured an average refund of US$7.64 million, which the report says equaled between 13.1 per cent and 53.6 per cent of their 2025 net profit based on annual reports and filings. Funds were disbursed through accounts held by their US subsidiaries.

The largest payout went to Zhejiang-based Huahai Pharmaceutical’s US unit, which received more than US$14.2 million in tariff refunds, the equivalent of 36.4 per cent of its full-year 2025 net profit, according to the report. Huahai said in an exchange filing that the refunds would affect its profit in the second half of this year.

The tyre maker Guizhou Tyre disclosed that its US subsidiary received more than US$11.98 million in combined tariff refunds and interest, which it said would be factored into its 2026 financial statements. SCMP Economy also cited Wind data indicating more than a dozen mainland enterprises have filed disclosures or responded to investors about applying for rebates, with an analyst saying the refunds can benefit original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as US importers rebuild inventories and face less pressure on pricing negotiations.
