American Airlines posts record revenue as fuel shock hits easyJet
American Airlines Group reported record quarterly revenue of $16.7 billion, while easyJet’s profits fell 70% as fuel costs rose.
American Airlines Group and easyJet are both contending with sharply higher fuel costs, but their latest earnings point to different ways of coping, according to Yahoo Finance.
American Airlines reported record quarterly revenue of $16.7 billion, up 16.3%, while capacity increased 5.4%. The outlet said passenger unit revenue improved across premium and Main Cabin products, along with domestic and every major international region, with premium passenger unit revenue up 13.4%, Main Cabin passenger unit revenue up 8.8%, and domestic passenger unit revenue up 10.6%.
easyJet, by contrast, saw profits plunge 70% despite operational improvements. Yahoo Finance said the airline’s case is tied more to risk management, noting that about 72% of its second-half fuel requirements were already hedged, while management acknowledged remaining unhedged fuel exposure leaves it vulnerable to further price increases.
The comparison for investors, the outlet said, centers on whether American’s stronger revenue and pricing dynamics or easyJet’s fuel-hedging buffer would better protect results if elevated fuel costs persist.
