Ari Emanuel agrees to acquire ATG Entertainment in about $6B deal
The portfolio would include seven Broadway theaters and 10 West End theaters, hosting more than 16,000 performances annually for over 18 million theatergoers.
Hollywood agent Ari Emanuel has agreed to acquire ATG Entertainment in a deal valued at an estimated $6B, according to reporting cited by Bisnow. The transaction is set to make Emanuel one of the largest landlords on Broadway, with Mari, the live events company Emanuel founded last year, serving as the acquiring entity alongside Providence Equity Partners.
ATG owns seven of Broadway’s 41 theaters, including the Lyric Theatre, which stages Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and venues such as the Eugene O’Neill Theatre, home to Book of Mormon, and the Walter Kerr Theatre, which hosts Hadestown. In London’s West End, the company operates 10 theaters, spanning a global portfolio of 70 venues across the UK, the U.S., Germany, and Spain.
The venues collectively host more than 16,000 performances and welcome over 18 million theatergoers each year, Bisnow reports. Mari plans to invest in preservation and modernization of the theaters and to support new productions, while ATG will continue operating under its existing brand and leadership.
In addition to the theater real estate, ATG has an in-house production team, with recent work including Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club and Plaza Suite starring Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, Bisnow notes. The outlet also points to Emanuel’s prior move into Broadway with Mari’s acquisition of TodayTix, a ticketing app that accounts for more than 15% of Broadway sales and 20% of West End sales.
