Bank of Russia allows retail Bitcoin trading with annual ruble cap
The central bank set the limit at 300,000 rubles, or about $3,632, per year for retail purchases, and it also permitted access to certain other assets including Tether’s USDT.
Russia’s central bank has approved retail investors to trade Bitcoin on local crypto exchanges, signaling further progress on digital asset regulation, according to Bitcoin Magazine.
Citing a post on the Bank of Russia’s Telegram channel, TASS reported that retail crypto purchases are capped at 300,000 rubles per year, about $3,632, while the rule also allows retail investors to access other major cryptocurrencies including Tether’s USDT stablecoin.
BitcoinMagazine notes that the framework also distinguishes retail from “qualified” investors, with qualified investors able to trade a longer list of digital assets and no stated purchase limit.
The article adds that, despite a tighter approach to retail participation, Russia still prohibits using cryptocurrencies to pay for goods domestically, though it has made exceptions for international payments amid ongoing sanctions context.
