Commercial policy renewal rate changes mixed in July, Ivans index shows

Commercial Auto renewal rates slipped to a 4.03% change in July, while Workers’ Compensation moved in the opposite direction.

Ivans, a division of Applied Systems, said its July 2026 Ivans Index showed year-over-year increases in average premium renewal rates across several major commercial lines, including Commercial Auto, Business Owner’s Policy, General Liability, Commercial Property, and Umbrella. The index also found that Workers’ Compensation was the exception, with renewal premium rates decreasing on a year-over-year basis during the same period, while most other listed lines rose year over year. On a month-over-month basis, Commercial Auto, BOP, General Liability, Commercial Property, and Umbrella all saw decreases in premium renewal rate change, while Workers’ Compensation increased. Commercial Auto’s renewal rate change was 4.03%, down from 4.58% in June, and Umbrella eased to 7.42% from 7.60%. For context on the index methodology, Ivans said the monthly report analyzes more than 120 million data transactions from over 38,000 agencies and 700 carriers and MGAs, measuring the year-over-year premium difference for a single consistent policy to track US insurance market trends.
