Florida Panthers’ arena area in Sunrise could become 24/7 district

Broward County’s plans for the 154-acre site could add 1,400 apartments and 600 hotel rooms, with a Sunrise City Commission review scheduled for next week.

Broward County has submitted plans to redevelop the 154-acre area around the Florida Panthers’ home in Sunrise into a 24/7 mixed-use entertainment destination, according to ConnectCRE.

The Panthers say they are in the early stages of discussions with Broward County and the city. A Sunrise City Commission will consider the proposal next week.

If approved, the plan could include 1,400 apartments, 600 hotel rooms, 1.62 million square feet of office and education space, and 300,000 square feet of commercial space, much of which would replace parts of the site’s existing parking lots.

ConnectCRE noted it is not yet known whether the Amerant Bank Arena would be part of the transformation. The outlet also pointed to similar US stadium and arena projects that add mixed-use entertainment districts nearby.
